The moment they signed up at Casino Filipino Angeles for the screening of the branch candidates for Miss Casino Filipino 2014, Maolin Yalung, Gel Dacion and Emma Tiglao knew at once that they joined the right competition.

Beyond their ultimate dream of becoming a beauty queen, the three young ladies are bound by a common objective to pursue a noble cause which they hope to accomplish by winning the prestigious pageant.

Yalung, Dacion and Tiglao moved a step closer to the realization of their respective goals after emerging triumphant recently in the Miss Casino Filipino qualifying round held at CF Angeles. They received P15,000 each, with Yalung bringing home an additional P10,000 for winning the Best in Swimsuit and Best in Long Gown.

Their victories earned them the opportunity to represent CF Angeles in the Miss Casino Filipino 2014 coronation night on September 19, 2014 at the Midas Hotel and Casino in Pasay City.

“My desire to be part of PAGCOR’s corporate social responsibility projects motivated me to join the Miss Casino Filipino beauty pageant. More than having the honor of representing the CF Angeles branch, I want to get actively involved in promoting something that would benefit a lot of people,” said the 20-year-old Yalung, a Speech Pathology graduate from the University of the Philippines-Manila.

In particular, Yalung seeks to participate in PAGCOR’s high-impact school building project if she bags the Miss Casino Filipino 2014 crown to help generate further awareness about the importance of education.

“Being in school allows everyone to attain equal opportunities and the knowledge and character to succeed in life,” she explained.

Meanwhile, 19-year-old Dacion, who is a fourth year Industrial Engineering student at Holy Angel University, said she has been participating in various beauty pageants in her search for a competition that would help her realize her wish to make a difference in the society.

“I don’t just join a beauty contest for the sake of joining. I pick those that I believe and feel would be instrumental in my advocacy to adopt a community should I win. Miss Casino Filipino, no doubt, could help me attain my goal,” Dacion mused.

On the other hand, working as a full-time model allowed the 5-9 Tiglao, a native of Mabalacat City, to keep tab of the conduct of some of the country’s major beauty tilts where she has become a familiar face. She considers her triumph in the Angeles leg of the Miss Casino Filipino contest as a great blessing since it will give her the chance to serve children with special needs.

“I’ve always been blessed with the opportunity to be part of prestigious beauty competitions. However, nothing is as great as the opportunity offered by Miss Casino Filipino to do what I’ve always wanted to do while being a beauty queen,” Tiglao noted.

PAGCOR Director Eric Nuguid, who served as one of the three judges during the CF Angeles qualifying round, said the winning candidates’ respective advocacies speak a lot about their sincere desire to achieve a purpose that will be beneficial to their countrymen.

“The winners we chose to represent CF Angeles in the Miss Casino Filipino 2014 grand finals are all deserving for the prestigious title. The causes that they’ll be pursuing if they win aptly define what the contest is all about,” Nuguid remarked.

The search for Miss Casino Filipino 2014 offers P500,000 in cash for the grand winner; P400,000 for the first runner-up; P300,000 for the second runner-up, P200,000 for the third runner-up and P100,000 for the fourth runner-up. After a gruelling screening that showcased the innate beauty of Ilongas, Casino Filipino (CF) Iloilo picked its representatives to this year’s Miss Casino Filipino 2014 nationwide beauty pageant.

Nurse Eiseley Kyle Pragados and Business Administration students Jenny Babe Puda and Zairah Marie Agsaluna bested seven other semi-finalists in the Miss Casino Filipino 2014’s regional screening in Iloilo. The three lovely ladies stood out from the 20 qualifiers in the beauty competition.

With them are AVP Jose Christopher M. Manalo of PAGCOR’s IT Dept., Ms. Susan Ramirez and CF Bacolod Branch Manager Art Malatag who served as the pageant’s panel of judges.

Despite her very hectic schedule from Mondays to Saturdays, Pragados, who is a private nurse to a 77-old patient, tried her luck at the Miss Casino Filipino regional screening in Iloilo.

“I begged for a day off to be able to join this competition. This is one of the biggest beauty pageants in Iloilo and it gives winners a chance to compete in the national level during the grand finals in Manila. This may be the last time that I will be joining a beauty contest so I am thankful that I was able to go this far,” Pragados shared.

According to Pragados, she is waiting for the result of her job application as a nurse in Saudi Arabia. “If luck will be on my side, I will be able to find better employment opportunities abroad,” she added.

As a healthcare worker, Pragados advocates health education. “I want to help people to take care of their health. It is more important than anything else,” she stressed.

Meanwhile, Jenny Babe Puda, a graduating Business Administration student at the West Visayas State University is grateful that PAGCOR chose Iloilo as one of the regional screening venues of the Miss Casino Filipino 2014.

“This pageant helped me boost my self-confidence. It also reminded me to never give up on my dreams because though I did not make it in some of the previous pageants that I joined, I made it to this one,” Puda cited.

Puda advocates tourism promotion to showcase to the world the best that the Philippines has to offer to tourists.

Likewise, Zairah Marie Agsaluna, a 2nd year Business Administration student at the Northern Iloilo Polytechnic College believes that the Miss Casino Filipino pageant can help her move closer to her dream of succeeding in life.

With her parents working overseas, Agsaluna plays the dual role of mother and father to her two other siblings. Although they live with their grandmother, she longs for a complete and happy family. “My parents are separated. My father is a piping foreman in the United Arab Emirates while my mother works as a cashier in a restaurant in Malaysia,” Agsaluna shared.

Winning the Miss Casino Filipino screening in Iloilo gave Agsaluna more inspiration to remain resilient. “This pageant is very challenging but it made me stronger. It allows me to expand my horizons and believe in my talent,” she said.

Agsaluna advocates environmental preservation. She believes that saving the environment is tantamount to saving the lives of future generations.

Apart from making it to the top three, Agsaluna was also named the Best in Swimsuit. Pragados won Best in Long Gown and Mary Charmange Carton was Best in Talent. The top three regional winners received P15,000 cash each.

The Miss Casino Filipino 2014 grand winner will receive P500,000 in cash while runners-up will take home the following cash prizes: P400,000 (1st); P300,000 (2nd); P200,000 (3rd); and P100,000 (4th).

Apart from her prize, the winner of Miss Casino Filipino 2014 will also receive from PAGCOR a P200,000 cash donation to her chosen charitable institution.

CF CEBU PICKS ITS FINALISTS FOR MISS CASINO FILIPINO 2014

by on Aug.19, 2014, under Casino Filipino, PAGCOR CSR

CEBU CITY – Three lovely ladies from the Visayas region will represent Casino Filipino Cebu in the grand coronation night of the nationwide search for Miss Casino Filipino 2014 on September 19, 2014. They are Rogelie Catacutan from Lahug, Cebu City, Maria Fatima Saudia Alsowyed from Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, and Julienne Hazel Penserga from Minglanilla, Cebu City.

(From left) Maria Fatima Alsowyed, Rogelie Catacutan and Julienne Hazel will represent Cebu casino branch during the Miss Casino Filipino 2014 coronation night on September 19, 2014 at the Midas Hotel and Casino in Pasay City.

The 23-year-old Catacutan is a familiar face in various beauty pageants in her hometown. Her first attempt at winning a beauty contest was in school when she was only 6 years old.  “I would always be invited as muse during sports festivals, tournaments and other events and I would always oblige. I am thankful that my mom encouraged me to join these competitions since I was a kid. It helped boost my confidence,” she related.

If she wins the Miss Casino Filipino 2014 crown, Catacutan wants to champion an advocacy that would help uplift the lives of unfortunate kids. “I always have a soft spot for kids so I feel sorry whenever I see kids who have a difficult situation in life. Parang nako-compare ko yung sarili ko. Growing up, my parents provided enough for us. We were able to go to school and become what we are right now. So definitely, if I will be given a chance to help, I will grab the opportunity to make the less fortunate children see and feel the good side of life,” she added.

Like Catacutan, Alsowyed also has the welfare of underprivileged children in mind when she joined the Miss Casino Filipino 2014 contest. She dreams of providing a literacy program for disadvantaged kids whose parents cannot afford to send them to school.  “Dala ko itong advocacy na ito sa lahat ng pageants na sinasalihan ko.  I believe that lack of money should not be a hindrance in attaining education,” she cited.

On the other hand, 20-year-old Penserga joined the Miss Casino Filipino beauty search in order to raise funds for the fishermen in Bantayan Island in Northern Cebu.  “The place was heavily devastated by super typhoon Yolanda and I personally saw how the families of fishermen suffered when they lost their livelihood. Kumakain lang sila ng kanin nang walang ulam, nakaka-lungkot. Since then, I told myself that I should make a move to lessen their plight,” she explained.

Apart from the opportunity to represent Casino Filipino Cebu in the nationwide beauty search, each of the three winners in the Cebu qualifying leg won P15,000 each. Al-Sowyed won an additional P10,000 for bagging the Best in Swimsuit and Best in Long Gown special awards.  Meantime, Catacutan won P5,000 for winning Best in Talent.

Mrs. Globe Philippines 2014 Stephanie Tiro-Sitoy, one of the judges during the Cebu semi-final round said the winners have an equal chance of becoming the next Miss Casino Filipino.  “All of them are beautiful, confident and smart. They all deserve to be in the finals. We will not be surprised if one of them will bring home the crown,” she added.

Tiro-Sitoy also lauded PAGCOR for providing young Filipinas a venue where they could showcase their beauty and talent. “The Miss Casino Filipino pageant is a great project. It enables a lot of young Filipina beauties to achieve their dream of becoming beauty queens. This contest also serves as a good training ground for them in case they decide to compete in other national beauty pageants in the future,” she noted.

The other judges during the Miss Casino Filipino 2014 semi-final round in Cebu were AVP Wilza Magpusao of the Entertainment and Bingo Department and CF Cebu General Manager Alexander Ozaeta.
