The 23-year-old Catacutan is a familiar face in various beauty pageants in her hometown. Her first attempt at winning a beauty contest was in school when she was only 6 years old.  “I would always be invited as muse during sports festivals, tournaments and other events and I would always oblige. I am thankful that my mom encouraged me to join these competitions since I was a kid. It helped boost my confidence,” she related.

If she wins the Miss Casino Filipino 2014 crown, Catacutan wants to champion an advocacy that would help uplift the lives of unfortunate kids. “I always have a soft spot for kids so I feel sorry whenever I see kids who have a difficult situation in life. Parang nako-compare ko yung sarili ko. Growing up, my parents provided enough for us. We were able to go to school and become what we are right now. So definitely, if I will be given a chance to help, I will grab the opportunity to make the less fortunate children see and feel the good side of life,” she added.

Like Catacutan, Alsowyed also has the welfare of underprivileged children in mind when she joined the Miss Casino Filipino 2014 contest. She dreams of providing a literacy program for disadvantaged kids whose parents cannot afford to send them to school.  “Dala ko itong advocacy na ito sa lahat ng pageants na sinasalihan ko.  I believe that lack of money should not be a hindrance in attaining education,” she cited.

On the other hand, 20-year-old Penserga joined the Miss Casino Filipino beauty search in order to raise funds for the fishermen in Bantayan Island in Northern Cebu.  “The place was heavily devastated by super typhoon Yolanda and I personally saw how the families of fishermen suffered when they lost their livelihood. Kumakain lang sila ng kanin nang walang ulam, nakaka-lungkot. Since then, I told myself that I should make a move to lessen their plight,” she explained.

Apart from the opportunity to represent Casino Filipino Cebu in the nationwide beauty search, each of the three winners in the Cebu qualifying leg won P15,000 each. Al-Sowyed won an additional P10,000 for bagging the Best in Swimsuit and Best in Long Gown special awards.  Meantime, Catacutan won P5,000 for winning Best in Talent.

Mrs. Globe Philippines 2014 Stephanie Tiro-Sitoy, one of the judges during the Cebu semi-final round said the winners have an equal chance of becoming the next Miss Casino Filipino.  “All of them are beautiful, confident and smart. They all deserve to be in the finals. We will not be surprised if one of them will bring home the crown,” she added.

Tiro-Sitoy also lauded PAGCOR for providing young Filipinas a venue where they could showcase their beauty and talent. “The Miss Casino Filipino pageant is a great project. It enables a lot of young Filipina beauties to achieve their dream of becoming beauty queens. This contest also serves as a good training ground for them in case they decide to compete in other national beauty pageants in the future,” she noted.

The other judges during the Miss Casino Filipino 2014 semi-final round in Cebu were AVP Wilza Magpusao of the Entertainment and Bingo Department and CF Cebu General Manager Alexander Ozaeta.
