Beauty queens who pursue a greater purpose in life by helping those in need serve as the inspiration for many beautiful young Filipinas to do the same.

In this year’s Miss Casino Filipino 2014 nationwide beauty search, the three winning candidates from CF Olongapo want to make a difference by advocating efforts that will help improve the quality of education and environmental preservation.

Twenty year-old Donna Velasco believes that education is very important for a beauty queen. “Having a college degree makes you a good role model to everyone. I want to buy them school supplies and repaint their classrooms. Through this simple donation, I hope to inspire and motivate them to study hard and finish their studies,” she said. The University of Santo Tomas (UST) alumna recently passed the Pharmacist Licensure Examination last June 2014.

According to Velasco, it was her decision to finish her studies first before entering any national beauty pageant. “I did that to avoid conflicts with my parents as well as with my schedule. I believe that aspiring beauty queens must first discover their calling, purpose or priority so they can give their best in anything that their heart desires,” she added.

Apart from being chosen as one of CF Olongapo’s representatives to the Miss Casino Filipino 2014, Velasco also won Best in Talent, Best in Swimsuit and Best in Long Gown during the pageant’s semifinals night held at the Olongapo casino last August 13, 2014.

Martina Mckinsey also underscores the importance of education for a woman who dreams of winning a national beauty pageant. “A beauty queen must have wisdom and knowledge so she can inspire people. At the end of the day, it is still more important to be a professional or college degree holder than just being a beauty queen,” she said. Mckinsey is a BS Hotel and Restaurant Management graduate. She works as front desk personnel for a hotel at the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) in Olongapo City.

Mckinsey also shares her passion to help orphaned children. “If I win the Miss Casino Filipino crown, I will support an orphanage in Manila. These children need our love and support,” she said.

On the other hand, Johvielyne Co – a Nursing graduate at the Our Lady of Fatima University – cited that it is everyone’s duty to protect the environment. If she wins as Miss Casino Filipino 2014, Co vowed to support projects that aim to promote environmental preservation.

“I live in the coastal areas and I have witnessed how environmental degradation negatively affects the lives of the locals. I’m really hoping to provide assistance to projects which promote the environment. I also wish to support disaster awareness campaigns in our community,” Co explained.

Meanwhile, CF Olongapo Branch Manager Jose Tulio is confident that the three representatives of their branch to the Miss Casino Filipino 2014 grand finals have a good chance of winning.

John Frank Abdon (extreme right).

He also commended the event’s noble objectives. “This project has been a relevant socio-civic activity of the corporation. Malaking bagay itong naisipan ng ating mahal na Chairman at ating Board of Directors at lalung-lalo na ni AVP Bong Quintana. The project helps promote the positive traits of a young Filipina and also gives the winner a chance to help charitable undertakings, Tulio said.
