Bacolod City – Excitement was in the air as the nationwide search for Miss Casino Filipino 2014 kicked off in Bacolod City last July 25 and 26, 2014. It was the first leg in a series of qualifying rounds in various Casino Filipino venues nationwide (Cebu, Davao, Angeles, Olongapo, Tagaytay and Metro Manila) which will end on August 30, 2014.

Charming ladies coming from different parts of the Negros province showed off their beauty, poise and talent during the regional competition held at the Casino Filipino Bacolod.

Earning the nod of the panel of judges were Saiphil Nipales from Victorias City, Roselyn Corilla from Bacolod City and Joy Magielen Jontilano from Kabankalan City. They will represent CF Bacolod in the Miss Casino Filipino 2014 grand finals night to be staged on September 19 at the Midas Tent in Pasay City.

Twenty-year-old Saiphil Nipales said she has heard how Miss Casino Filipino gives employment opportunities to some of its past winners and finalists. She also noted how the beauty contest enabled winners to participate in PAGCOR’s Corporate Social Responsibility projects like the feeding program and Pamaskong Handog (christmas gift-giving activity). “I also want to have that opportunity, so I joined this beauty contest,” she said.

A fresh graduate from the Carlos Hilado Memorial State College in Talisay, Negros Occidental, Nipales shared that she is currently looking for a job so that her mother can come home to the Philippines. “My mom has been working as a Domestic Helper in Singapore since 1994. Gusto ko umuwi na sya dito at ako naman ang magtrabaho para sa amin,” she added.

According to Nipales, she wanted to apply for a job in Casino Filipino even before she heard of its nationwide beauty contest. “I love the vibrant atmosphere there (Casino Filipino). I believe winning as Miss Casino Filipino here in Bacolod is a good start for me,” she enthused.

Meanwhile, Roselyn Corilla who is a 5’7” stunner from Bacolod City was equally thrilled to be chosen as one of the representatives of CF Bacolod to the nationwide Miss Casino Filipino search. The eldest in a brood of nine children, Corilla believes that joining PAGCOR’s beauty pageant could help ease their plight.

Corilla’s father is an upholsterer while her mother is a laundrywoman. She has been trying her luck in local beauty contests hoping to win so she can earn extra money for their family. “Ito po ang paraan para makatulong ako sa magulang ko, mga kapatid ko, at para may pang-dagdag din sa pang-tuition namin ng mga kapatid ko. Madalas ako sumali sa barangay beauty pageants dito sa Bacolod. First time ko po mag-join sa isang national beauty contest, nag-lakas loob lang talaga ako. Napakasaya ko po na isa ako sa tatlong napili,” she excitedly shared.

Corilla’s advocacy is to promote education by encouraging underprivileged children to go to school. “Marami dito sa Bacolod makikita nyo pakalat-kalat sa downtown, namamalimos, hindi nag-aaral. Kaya gusto ko po itaguyod yung advocacy na hikayatin ang mga batang mahihirap na pumasok sa eskwela. Marami namang public schools dito na pwede silang pumasok ng libre. Para hindi mapariwara ang buhay nila,” she explained.

Meanwhile, 19-year old Joy Magielen Jontilano aims to promote theater arts to fellow students in Collegio San Agustin in Bacolod. “I learned a lot from being a member of the theater guild in our school. It enhanced my skills, boosted my confidence and helped me to mature. That is what I want to impart to others,” she said.

Jontilano believes that every person needs drive and motivation in order to grow. “Mahiyain ako dati. Nung sumali ako sa theater, na-discover ko na kaya ko palang mag-perform sa harap ng maraming tao. Then I also started joining beauty pageants here in Bacolod,” she added.

Nipales, Corilla and Jontilano each took home P15,000 in cash prize for being the top three finalists in the Miss Casino Filipino 2014 search in Bacolod. Jontilano received an additional P10,000 for winning the “Best in Long Gown” and “Best in Swimsuit”. Meantime, Nipales won P5,000 for “Best in Talent”. The other seven CF Bacolod regional semi-finalists were given a consolation prize of P5,000 each.

CF Bacolod Branch Manager Arthur Malatag who was among the judges during the regional screening said the Miss Casino Filipino search is a good project because there is charity involved. “The grand winner will have the opportunity to donate P200,000 to a charitable institution of their choice. The winners can also join the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects of PAGCOR. Maganda din ito kasi may kakaiba tayong event na nao-offer sa ating mga casino guests and patrons while we are conducting the qualifying rounds,” he said.

Apart from the P200,000 cash donation, the winner of Miss Casino Filipino 2014 will also bring home a cash prize of half a million pesos. The runners-up will get P400,000 (1st runner-up), P300,000 (2nd runner-up), P200,000 (3rd runner-up) and P100,000 (4th runner-up). Cash prizes will also be given to the candidates who will win special awards like the “Best in Long Gown”, “Best in Swimsuit”, “Best in Talent” and Social Media Darling.
